How generation works

Mod-97, BBAN shapes, and what this tool is not
Can these IBANs move real money?
No. They are dummy strings for form QA and fixtures. The bank code, branch code, and account number are random characters of the correct shape, not looked up from any real institution or bank.
Why do the IBANs still pass the mod-97 checksum?
Real payment forms validate the IBAN checksum before ever touching a bank. A test IBAN needs a real checksum to exercise that code path — that's what the valid mode gives you.
What's the invalid checksum toggle for?
It flips the two check digits so the IBAN deliberately fails mod-97. Use it to confirm your validation actually rejects malformed IBANs, not just that it accepts good ones.
Is the BIC a real bank's SWIFT code?
No. It's a plausible 8-character shape (4 letters, the IBAN's country code, 2 alphanumeric characters) for testing a paired IBAN/BIC field — not a real bank directory lookup.
